Interdict
Sensational Artwork
On the 8 th of April 1961, theArchbishop of Malta Mgr Michael Gonzi imposed the interdict on Dom Mintoff andall the executive members of the Malta Labour Party. All those who died duringthis time and professed to be Labour were not permitted to be buried in aconsecrated part of the Addolorata cemetery, but rather in a section which wasnot consecrated, called il-Mizbla(landfill). This part was given this dishonourable name because behind it,there was a field used as a landfill. This section was excluded from the restof the cemetery by means of a wall, which was later pulled down. Nowadays thissection is no longer excluded and it is being used as normal burial ground. Idocumented, through a literature review, video and photography this section ofthe Addolorata cemetery, which is still accessible today. For many people theearly sixties remains a very difficult time in the history of Malta.

This has been documented through  small series of paintings using acrylics.
