Valentine’s Day (Yorokobu magazine competition)

Valentine’s Day (Yorokobu magazine competition)
Editorial design - Digital drawing - Illustration

Cover and back page proposal
presented for the competition “Design the cover and back page for the Yorokobu magazine" in the month of February 2015, based on the premise that both illustrations should combine the concept of Valentine’s Day representing also in the cover of the magazine the Yorokobu’s spirit and on the back page the values of the Volkswagen brand.

Cover

The simple, sensual and, in turn, transgressive illustration of the cover transmits the meaning of Valentine’s Day with a passionate kiss between two women.

Made of pure black and white with little nuances of grey to enhance buffer zones and create volume, including in its lower right corner the name of the magazine with the added detail of a rose that symbolically combines the cover and back page
.
Back page

The back page, with more overloaded composition and a strong dreamlike atmosphere follows the same graphic line as the cover combining image and text in an illustration that manages to link the automotive industry and Valentine’s Day through some elements like a Volkswagen key, the pen with the bouquet of roses and the note that fuses together with the road (which in turn serves as anchor text), reinforcing the idea of romanticism of a break in which the destination is only subject to what the heart dictates.
