My assumption was that umbrellas available today provide excessive protection. Only 25-30% of the area covered by them is truly useful and on top of that they get damaged easily.
This level of protection is especially needless in urban environments since we spend only a few hundred meters in rain on our daily routes using public transport or car.
So my aim was to create a device that is durable and give efficient rain protection. The shape of my umbrella follows the fundamental protective functions of the hand and arm. This is how this shield shaped umbrella was born that provide adequate short-term rain protection and it's barely larger than a booklet when folded.
