The foundation of the typeface's design imitates the diamond's polyhedron lattice, the characters corresponding to the diamond crystal structure inspired mathematics. Diamond represents a perfect amalgam of the science and art, natural and artificial, much like typography, each "facet" is there to create meaning and value. The title "3bAL" pays homage to the diamond cubic space (Fd3m). Moreover, by flipping left to right the word itself, the title becomes the name of person to whom this typrface is dedicated to.
