Blossoming - A mental health photography project.

“Deep in your wounds are seeds, waiting to grow beautiful flowers”
Niti Majethia,
For this photography project, I have chosen to focus on mental health. It’s something that everyone can relate to in some shape or form. One in four of us will experience a mental health difficulty during their lives, with different responses for every individual reaction. Their well being may be comprised where they are overwhelmed by painful or extreme emotions, interfering with that persons inability to cope with everyday living. I wanted to portray human emotions through the photography by the use of photo manipulation, using a composite of images of plant live. There is such a wide range of mental health issues that many suffer from, that I didn’t want to narrow the photographs expression to just one category. I believe the use of flowers would be a good choice as you can use/manipulate emotions from the forms plants take. Taking the vibrant and energetic colours to communicate feelings of happiness and contentment, to the decaying features of flowers to portray fragility, the decline of good mental health. I want to take three portrait images with a male model, as I want to target the stigma behind men concealing their emotions.  The title I have chosen is Blossoming, representing mental health in it's transition. The quote that has driven me forward in my reasoning is one by Niti Majethia, “Deep in your wounds are seeds, waiting to grow beautiful flowers”. It has helped me develop my concepts and to bring the project together.
