ShayMay: YouTube Branding

Hired to do work for my good friend ShayMay, pushing into defining an icon and style for him going forward into YouTube. Much help from himself, it's nae a half bad job.
Revised and tweaked several times over, Shay really wanted an icon or silhouette that defined the logo more than a traditional typeface shape. Sketched by himself, there were several designs involving more realistic and abstract headshapes, more detailed hair tufts and even cutting elements away from each other. Not used to doing this myself, it was a nice challenge.

The text was another important focus, especially as his expectation was a far cry from my usual designs being flat and shapely. Nevertheless, I'm happy with the clean, jeweled look, with the gold complementing the whole piece without being too garish. Flat vectors also exist to be used for print and emblems as the need arises.
As seen above, a deep purple is used throughout, emulating the recent shift into polygonal shapes, something me and Shay both liked the look of before we went ahead with the commission. I instead gave it some more sharp cuts instead of smooth, 3D logic, simply to give a more jagged, striking look against other contempory design. It's minor, but works to keep things even a little different.

Gold trims and bold text have been used, with whites and gold sitting boldly against the regal, yet understated purples. In videos, this would take the form of a video background, cuz everyone likes those these days and stuff ok bye.
