Caltrans Last Chance Grade Responsive Site

Working under a tight budget, Caltrans, the California Department of Transportation, was interested in building a website explaining their strategy, and eventual solution for instability and roadway failure on a 4-mile segment of US Highway 101 in Del Norte County.

The primary goal of the website was to make transparent the research Caltrans was performing, the roadway alternatives they were considering (executed through large diagrams and supplementary text), and for communicating a frequently updated process and schedule of events.

This accessible and fully responsive website was being used along with community meetings and other outreach materials and events to educate, and gather community input.

Additionally, the decision to include a tab for users to sign up for email updates, and providing ample space on the homepage for Caltrans' Twitter feed, reinforced their transparency and community education.

Work completed at MIG, Inc.
