City of Barstow Responsive Site

Once a crossroad for trade and travel, and a destination stop along historic Route 66, the City of Barstow is strategizing how to reinvigorate its downtown. Working within a short timeframe, approximately two weeks, and under a tight budget, the City wanted to develop a website that would educate, and be a resource for the community as they begin redeveloping the city.

Since education is the primary function of this site, working with the City, we identified three key ways the community can be involved, and feel a part of the process: participating in workshops, a calendar of events, and information about the Advisory Committee. These three site pages are highlighted on the homepage using iconography making them easily accessible to the user.

Taking a cue from the historic imagery, shapes, and patterns of Barstow, this fully responsive site uses iconography, colors, and typography that signify the City's unique history. Since there is so much imagery associated with the area, each content page uses different shapes and icons to showcase the mix of patterns that exist in Barstow. Additionally, the typography being used is similar in style to that seen on signage in the area.
