In August 2014, Media24 launched a new umbrella property to host its series of longstanding Afrikaans news titles, including Beeld, Die Burger and Die Volksblad, as part of a digital-first strategy. Since then, Netwerk24 has grown to the be South Africa's largest subscription service of Afrikaans online news.
I was briefed to design a brand identity that could comfortably sit alongside global news brands, like CNN and BBC World – as well strategically positioning Netwerk24 as Media24's flagship intermedia offering.
In designing the identity, I wanted to represent critical impartiality, but also the idea that objectivity is a point of view – and also make something that could work equally well in print and 2nd screen applications. From there, I started playing with positive and negative space and visual weighting to ultimately craft a single colour wordmark and logo iteration contained in a square holding device.
