Challney High School For Girls
Completion 2010
Wates Construction – PFI
Value £24m

RIBA Award Winner – Spirit of Ingenuity 2011

Project Architect Role from Stage D to Completion.

From carrying out the initial PQQ stages I returned to the project to undertake delivery of the bid winning design by others at RIBA Stage D.

As team leader my Initial tasks were to ensure submission for Planning Approval and to steer the project to Financial Close in 2008. The Role continued with addressing Detailed Design RIBA Stage D+, Working Drawings, Value Engineering and Subcontractor Packages. Client Engagements continued with Reviewable Design Data and detail design development.

I lead the project to completion in December 2010 achieving Breeam Very Good and ensuring PFI compliance and approvals of the Independent Certifier.

Challney High School for Girls located directly adjacent to the M1 and consequently suffers significant adverse environmental impact due to the noise and pollution generated by motorway traffic. The design was for a sealed box building to address this.

The design features to support the school’s leaning agendas are : Two community heart spaces; Teaching clusters; Circulation with Mall and Shared (School/Community) Zone and a School Use Zone. Science Specialism is emphasised in the design of the science cluster and it’s key positioning adjacent to the main entrance.
