Introduction

Gastronomy Symphony is a conceptual restaurant that interprets Malaysian cuisine as
Western classical music through the use of photographic imagery that aims to
bring the music to the table in a visual way.

It draws Inspiration from omakase (the Japanese word for 'leaving it to the chef'),
the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi and borrows the opinion from food critics
that a good omakase is paced like a symphony.

Brand Mark Construction

The logo is a marriage between a musical rest, fermata, and a silver service tray and dome,
with the basic elements derived from the fermata.

The intent was to create a bespoke logo that communicates both music and food,
with music as its emphasis, and evoking a sense of contemporary modesty at the same time.

Suite for Pitches and Silence and Time
(Photographic Series)

Foundations for Tonal Repertoire
(Canon in D  x  Kampua Mee)

This piece depicts the composition technique of a canon:
a variant of beautiful melodies from a set of simple elements.

——

Contemplations Under the Moonlight
(Clair de Lune  x  Half-boiled Egg)

The egg is used to translate this melancholic impressionist piece
as it has a connotation to the moon in the Chinese culture.

——

Suicidal Wish of a Tormented Soul
(O Mio Babbino Caro  x  Sago Gula Melaka)

A song that sings of a single-hearted love to the point of suicidal,
this is translated as our love towards desserts, emphasised by our
guilty pleasure of indulgement at inappropriate times.

——

Code of Victory
(Symphony No.5  x  Kacang Puteh)

The two corresponding elements that make up this photo comes from
a hard time in life. The rhythm of this Symphony's theme coincidentally
matches the roman number 'V' in the Morse code.

——

Bittersweet Serenade
(Le Cygne  x  Teh Tarik)

This piece is a bittersweet depiction of the ancient Greeks and Romans' believe in the mute swan,
whom they regarded as the most beautiful animal. The belief was that the swan, during the last
moments of its life would sing a song that is the most beautiful of all bird songs.
