Thomas Disselkamp's profile

Operation Breakthrough

Thomas Disselkamp is an award-winning product development specialist with over 30 years of experience. He is employed by 3M’s Infection Prevention Division in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he has team leadership responsibilities. Tom Disselkamp sponsors two children through the charity Unbound (formerly the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging).

The core values of Unbound are to care for those suffering from poverty with honesty and transparency, dignity, and mutual respect. Unbound partners with people living in poverty to give opportunities for a better life. Since its inception in 1981, it has served over 800,000 children, students, and aging adults.

One of the ministries of Unbound is Operation Breakthrough of Kansas City, one of the largest single-site early education and social services in Missouri. Caring for approximately 400 children each day, Operation Breakthrough provides year round early education and support services for children. Of the kids who come to the center, one in four are homeless, and 92 percent are being raised by a single parent earning under $13,000 per year. The goal of Operation Breakthrough is to provide safety and nurturing in a caring environment. What began as simple childcare has grown into a large scale community outreach that provides music therapy, health and wellness, social/life skills groups, medical care, a food pantry, resume development, parenting classes, child abuse/neglect prevention, and more.
