Living Vases is based on the way that nature functions. Organisms grow, they are unique, they interact.

I wanted to create a set of vases that play off of this idea and function as an extension of the living plants that they are holding.
The world of ceramics is bizarrely unique, turning mud into shiny hard objects is one of the most marvelous material potentials I have encountered. I learned that time is your most valuable commodity, organization and preparation are essential to a successful ceramics projects. Time vanishes into allowing moulds to set, allowing moulds to dry, allowing slip to dry, getting green ware bisque fired and finally getting them glaze fired. Finding the right people to help you is always a great help with any specialized project and I was fortunate enough to be surrounded with helpful people from the university that had a wealth of knowledge and experience with ceramics.

The project was a fantastic learning experience; over coming obstacles with a positive mindset was the most important skill that I began to develop. I learned a lot about ceramics, slip casting, time management, project management, outsourcing and lead times that I look forward to carrying into my future endeavors.
