Erica Zigelman (Principal)'s profile

Elizabeth Rohatyn Prize for Schools

An experienced principal with over three decades of experience, Erica Zigelman started her career with the New York City Department of Education. In recognition of her work as a principal, Erica Zigelman became a semi-finalist for the Elizabeth Rohatyn Prize for Schools Where Teaching Matters in 2013.

Serving New York City and the surrounding areas, Teaching Matters is based on the six principles of accountability, innovation, partnership, pragmatism, perseverance, and respect. Founded almost 20 years ago, the organization works to provide resources and support for approximately 1,600 teachers. In addition, it recognizes outstanding teachers with the Elizabeth Rohatyn Prize for Schools Where Teaching Matters.

Since 2010, the Elizabeth Rohatyn Prize has annually awarded $25,000 to one public school within a 100-mile radius of New York City where the principal has fostered an environment of leadership, learning, and success for teachers and students. Additionally, submissions are judged on general and teacher- and student-based criteria, covering areas such as cost effectiveness, effective teaching practices, and the degree of learning support. Once awarded, the prize money may be used for in-process projects, staffing needs, or other resources. The winner is announced at the annual Elizabeth Rohatyn Prize Luncheon.
