Cuerpos de Dolor
The Image of the Sacred in Spanish Sculpture (1500-1750)
Spanning the golden centuries of Spanish sculpture, the exhibition "Cuerpos de Dolor. The Image of the Sacred in Spanish Sculpture (1500-1750)", is a selective show of the remarkable collection of the Valladolid National Museum of Sculpture.
It was possible to assemble a set of images of enormous expressiveness, through which the sacred, in a historical period particularly directed to a physical materialization of the devotional phenomenon, was embodied.

The exhibition project, the objects used to promote the exhibition and the catalog were designed in dialogue between this important legacy in sculpture and the current dynamic context in which it was to be exhibited.
The choice of a bolder and more contemporary typeface and showcase framework - in particular the repeated gruff cropping of the female image ("Virgem das Dores" that is the face of the exhibition, seemed to us an interesting perspective to communicate the available set of artworks, revealing only a small part of an even bigger, richer and more relevant whole.

This project is also on our website with a few more images. So far only a few images from the exhibition, but soon we will also include images from the catalog and some exhibition promotional materials, all designed by FBA.

Visited by 48,165 people, the exhibition "Cuerpos of Dolor", took place at the National Museum of Ancient Art from November 15, 2011, to April 15, 2012 after an extension, due to the success with the public and the critics .
Curated by António Filipe Pimentel, Manuel Arias Martínez e Miguel Ángel Marcos Villán, the show now goes to the Museo de Bellas Artes in Seville, where it will be inaugurated on May 3rd.
