Student Project: Type Specimen book

An experimental take on a type specimen book describes the anatomy, characters and families of the two typefaces I chosen: the new font, Agnema, to compliment the classic Trade Gothic Next. I wanted to reinforce this relationship between the two, and give each font its own personality. I presented both fonts in the same specimen, with the intention to offer them to the consumer as a 'type bundle', the first of a new initiative from Monotype.

As designers, we sometimes struggle to find the perfect partner for our chosen typeface. Which is why I  have created a new marriage of complimentary fonts for you to enjoy. Each family is seperated by information about the typeface and the designers, this is the same for the Trade Gothic Next book, adding consistency between the two and also adding rhythm and at the end they come together.
By using an all-typographic layout and freely positioning elements within the format creates exciting and dynamic compositions.

I decided to scan type and sheets of padded paper and used to scan them in and create a collection of glitched imagery which reflect current design trends such as the celebration of error and shake mistake. To focus this in a more reflective format. The objective is to have unexpected imagery and explore the errors that can occur in size of paper, binding, layouts and how it can transfom and become dynamic layout, what we look like in the future and how one can see the fonts being used together.
