WEEK 1- EXPERIMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Reflections

In this first week of CRIC lesson that was done by Luke, I realised that he was actually a very gentle man who was the first lecturer that approached me in Mandarin in the first lesson. His impression to me is very good.

Not too much heavy information for the first lesson, I learnt about Experimental Photography, which is where photography takes on new techniques or technologies. It often re-employs existing techniques in new ways.   When I looked at those experimental photos that were done by photographers in older days, I tried to understand the gist in their photos of what they trying to portrait. Experimental Photography has two types, traditional way whereby photographers attempted to scratching ,folding, painting on prints,Experiment text with images  etc before the photo shoot, and NO FURTHER EDITION is involved. While non-traditional way would be  Digital photography , Alternative digital capture, photoshop and Illustration which are commonly used nowadays. The innovation of new technology in photography brings new experiences and diversification of the photography, and definitely there will be more to come in future.

During the lesson, Luke approached me with a question on whether CRIC was more to commercial or fine arts. I had to say that my mind went blank for previous ten minutes, then I just repeated what others said previously(I have little ability to concentrate over a long time). I am a very traditional girl who prefers traditional drawing, crafting etc( that was the reason I chose CRIC) Hopefully, I still can find CRIC easy to cope with comparing to other ELECTIVES. I quite worry if I made a wrong choice.(haha...)
Assignment 1
Scanography X Simplicity

BRIEF

Simplicity:
 /[sim-plis-i-tee]

the state, quality, or an instance of being simple. freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts: an organism of great simplicity. absence of luxury, pretentiousness, ornament, etc.; plainness:

Simplicity is an attitude , a voice and a personality. In my observation, people have greater sense of art nowadays and all along the way, i realised a fact that everyone has his own definition of art. To be general, art means beauty, and if something looks pretty and nice to the majority, THIS item definitely represent beauty. Simplicity in art is most commonly and highest accepted by majority for beauty.
Photo 1

I got a random inspiration from the photo I saw online which was about simplicity. I knew that it looked a little boring and it did not really portray Experimental Photography. However, I decided to give a try and I come out with this. The idea I want to deliver was : Love X Utensils. We generally associate utensils with eating, cooking, having meals. Those key ideas stand for a main idea of EAT. Eat is a philosophy. I believe when you put sincerity while cooking, the one that eats your food definitely can feel your piece of heart. That's why I came up with this photo.
Photo 2

This photo i played with the colours and shapes. The uniform placement of pencils and non-uniform placement of piles.I was trying to show a fun mixture of shapes and placement. The general tone of the photo is cheerful though.

Photo 3

This is another version of photo 2, whereby the main items are pencils and piles. I took another way of conveying the same idea. The arrangement of pencils and piles and the combination of shapes aim to give a fun feeling .
Photo 4

You won't know that this photo I took it with my scarf(haha). I got a sudden inspiration from line pattern. However at that point of time, I got limited items with me that seem to be in "curve" lines. All of a sudden I saw my scarf, and I got a random idea. (I am so proud...genius!haha) As the scanner start scanning, I moved my scarf along the laser . Surprise! The outcome was really interesting to me. Then I actually had another version of this, whereby I want to place piles in between those lines, however, those piles get shifted while I moved the scarf and the outcome was not so satisfied with this photo.
Photo 5

In this photo, the idea I want to deliver was : Love X Music. Music is formed with letter notations. These couple years I fall in love with electro and I found that music without lyrics has many dimensions for listeners to interpretation. Recently I start to think about how those music, whether with or without lyrics, those songs are the production of love. It could be any kind of love and even sadness, hatred, loneliness, excitement, those are the production of love. They all generated from love. Thus, I came up with this photo.
