Merklappen City Facades Rotterdam

This project was my first assignment in WDKA when I was in my exchange period. In wonder I was walking around the city and taking photos of fascinating buildings all over Rotterdam. My goal was looking into facades and research them with different tools and convert them to another medium. I took photos and started doing drawings with their references. I create black and white patterns and I wanted to apply them with a “Dutch Way”. After my research I found that cross stitching is one of the Dutch crafts which has been exist since 13. Century in the Netherlands. I transform my patterns into cross stitch and started stitching. At the end of the process I have got 3 pieces of work and I am still stitching those pieces.
