CONCEPT & building details

The aim of this building is to host a museum dedicated to the modern history of war in Greece, and especially Athens. The conflict of political or other aspects, that led to a general division and even a civil war, is the protagonist of the museological exhibition. This project aspires to be a building and a meaningful monument in the heart of Athens, simultaneously. 

As a monument, it reflects the dipole in general. It may reflect the two opponents of a war, the two sides of a story, the good and the bad, the left and the right parties. As a form, it keeps the idea of the dipole, and it consists of two different and complementary buildings, that are essential for the proper function of this project. The gap between these two sides of the building is the most symbolic part of the project. It is identical, in shape, with the route in the city that is followed in each protest or march, realized in memory of the aforementioned events. This museum is the answer to a lot of questions, and includes all the information that complete the historical puzzle, for everyone that is interested in depth or superficially. 

The museological narration is delimited in the smaller volume and leads the visitors in a different learning proccess that arrange the information based in their form. The second volume functions independently, offering a plenty of cultural choices for education or/ and meditation. While, there is a correspondence between the programs of the two volumes on each floor. Τhe two volumes can function as two completely independent buildings, or can be combined to complete a different experience, which can be achieved by entering the museum, elevating all the way up and passing to the second building from the only connection of the two parts, conceptually and morphologically, that takes place on the sixth and last floor and its attic. There the aim is for the visitors to interact and discuss, and some pieces of information in all forms complete the puzzle. Finally, a descendance by the second part can complete the whole experience. The view of the schism and the opposite volume is a different experience on each floor. 

This site is full of narratives in different expressions and activities, so offers plenty of possibilities for everyone to discover.
