Eroded cube is a housing complex which combines commercial and public uses in the center of Volos, Greece, while at the same time re-establishes the meaning of the Greek “polikatikia”, commonly referred to as a “block of flats”.
The purpose of this project was to create the best possible conditions for all residential and commercial spaces contained, by opening a big hole in the center of the building for better light and air conditions.
The idea of a big blank space, as a backyard, is widely used in greek cities, but almost in absolute majority this space remains
unexploited.

In this block, this blank space becomes a lively part of the building,by creating an attraction for people to come closer and observe, while the entrance to the building is transformed into a lively public space.
