Psycho (1960) Interactive Poster

As part of a 1 week elective on experimental poster design, I chose to make an interactive poster for Alfred Hitchcock's legendary psychological thriller-horror film, Psycho (1960). The poster shows the Bates' mansion, home to the deranged Norman Bates and his mother Norma Bates, whose sinister silhouette is seen in the window.

Combining paper cut layers, arduino and light and shadow I tried to create an interactive poster showcasing the dark, sinister themes of the film.
The poster is made of 13 layers of hand cut paper with 3 lights:
- an LED strip that throws light on the poster from below.
- a strong backlight behind the poster.
- a single LED in the window which , using an Arduino, is programmed to light up on detecting motion and flickers irregulary- showing the silhouette of Norma Bates.
The backlight is a table lamp (left) and the light being thrown from the bottom is a strip LED whose intensity is adjustable with a slider on top.

Using an Arduino Uno board and a motion sensor, the LED in the window is programmed to flicker irregularly on sensing the motion of an approaching viewer.
The setup
The poster in action. The music is  from Bernard Hermann's iconic soundtrack of  Psycho- 'The Murder.'
