Ozark Hikers' Refuge
Design Three Project
This project began with a study of the interaction of three planes and how to maintain their identities while allowing interplay between them that created interior and exterior space. Program was not applied until late in the semester and, at that time, further development responding to use took place along with application of and development of an attitude about a general but interactive site.
This was my initial reaction to the three planes requirement. Two additive planes plus the ground equals three planes.
Here, the two additive planes become muddled as I do not remember how they were distinguished from one another.
The planes are still muddled but there is an attempt to create exterior space.
Exterior space is more defined and there is some stasis space beginning to expand from the rest of the interior space.
This is where My semester work ended. Using two different types of wood helped distinguish the planes from one another and highlight their play. The ground is still somewhat passively involved but the location was decided to be a bluff in the Ozark mountains so the opening in the dark plane gives a view of rolling ridgelines from the main space.
Section through the main space where the roof is slightly opened.
This is one way I imagine the space could be used.
