Giraffe Illustration

Photoshop Sketch
Final Giraffe Illustration Created With Adobe Illustrator CC
This project utilized several Adobe Creative Cloud Applications

1. I started with Adobe Sketch on my iPad by tracing a photo I took at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The photo was saved to my iPad from Lightroom Mobile.
2. The completed Sketch project was sent directly to Photoshop on my desktop where I scaled it up to 24" x 18" at 300ppi. I also cleaned and contrasted the lines, and saved out a full resolution tiff to place into Illustrator.

3. I used Adobe Capture on my iPhone to collect a variety of colors from the futon cover in my office.
4. The tiff line art illustration was placed into Illustrator and coverted to vector with Image Trace.

5. The Capture Color Themes were added to Illustrator's Swatches and organized by hue.

6. I painted the giraffe line art with Illustrator's Live Paint.
7. I wanted to add some texture to the giraffe's spots, so I searched my Lightroom catalog for texture images. I found an image of wind blown rippled beach sand. In Lightroom I created a high contrast version of the sand image, and then photographed my computer screen with Adobe Capture on my iPhone.
8. The Capture Sand Shape was placed and masked in Illustrator, dupicated three times, slightly skewed, and set to different blend modes to create the texture.
9. Falling Leaf pattern was drawn with pen on paper for the background.
10. I found an image of palm branches in my Lightroom catalog and photographed the monitor with Adobe Capture to create additional background texture. The hand drawn leaf pattern was also photographed with Capture.
11. The hand drawn pattern, palms texture and an additional grunge bitmap tiff image were combined in Illustrator to create the background.
Thanks for Looking!
