Lord Anthony Harmer

Tony Harmer is a brilliant artist and instructor. He is also a genuinely kind person and a lot of fun to be around. As soon as I saw Tony's new portrait by Tigz Rice I new I had to draw it. The portrait was drawn with both vector shapes and pixels brushes in Adobe Fresco on an iPad Pro.

Adobe Capture was used for custom brushes and vector shapes.
The illustration starts by drawing black vector line art shapes based on the source photo. The eyes and tongue were exaggerated slightly to create a slightly more comic look.
I used Adobe Capture for some of the lapel pins and others were drawn by tracing the photo. All of the flat colors are drawn as vector shapes.

The leather texture was created with two layers. First I painted black, gray, and brown colors with the watercolor splatter brush. Above the watercolor layer I drew white and black textures with chalk and pastel brushes.

The hair, plaid shirt, fuzzy hat and orange stripped background are painted with custom Adobe Capture brushes.
The plaid pattern was drawn with a striped Fresco Ribbon Brush created in Adobe Capture. I created the brush by first drawing some vertical stripes with Illustrator on my iPad. Those stripes were converted to a striped pattern in Capture, and the striped pattern was then used to create the ribbon brush shown here.
A vertical stripe pattern flows perpendicular to the brush stroke. Horizontal brush strokes create vertical stripes. Vertical strokes create horizontal lines. The second stroke is blended over the first stroke using the overlay blend mode to create the plaid pattern.
A custom hair brush starts with an image of random dots that is converted to a pixel brush with Adobe Capture.
Adding a small amount of scatter to the brush setting creates rough or scraggly looking hair.

The orange stripes were drawn with another custom Fresco Ribbon Brush created in Capture. This brush started as horizontal lines drawn in Illustrator and then convert to a horizontal line pattern in Capture. A ribbon brush was created in Capture from the horizontal line pattern.
Horizontal lines follow the brush stroke. Shown below is a single "S" shape stroke with the orange stripe ribbon brush.
The background is created from several layers of striped brush strokes. The multi tone effect of each stroke is done by changing the brush color to anything other than middle gray.

The bezier lines were created with a Capture Shape. I drew some bezier curves in Illustrator on the iPad, took a screen capture of the curve handles, and then converted the screen capture to a shape with Capture.
The fuzzy hat was painted with a custom scatter brush texture created with Capture.
Thank you for looking.
