Calendars keep time, and there is more than one way of telling it. Our lunisolar calendar re-orders and emphasizes the traditional Chinese system over the Gregorian one, such that it alters our perception of time and re-aligns us closer with the cyclical rhythms of nature seasonal changes in rainfall, the awakening of insects and moon phases. A welcome respite from our corporate, digital selves.
As new designers, we were learning how to deal with issues of cost and design intent. One challenge with print was to optimize the unorthodox dimensions, small print quantity, and multiple loose sheets with the right printing method.
"Graphically, I enjoy the connection to chinese lanterns by way of color and pattern choices. It contrasts the structured grid in which the text lives effectively."
