When the Grafisch Atelier Den Bosch (graphic work space) moved to a different location they asked us, together with 9 other graphic designers and illustrators, to join this project. The actual idea was to create more visibility in the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch, but above all to give insight in the process of screen-printing. The designers teamed up with a local shops to show the owners and their clients what the added value of custom made (screen)printed matter can be.

Our shop owner runs a small traditional bakery in the city center. In the first meetings, we quickly noticed the similarities between screen printing and spreading butter or jelly on a slice of bread. The playful and minimalist graphics represent different kinds of sandwich toppings. Butter, cheese, chocolate sprinkles, peanut butter, jelly, cucumber and of course hot-sauce, making seven in total and an equal number of screens, which lead to endless possibilities. We designed a method so all of the toppings could fit together without interfering with one another.

To come up with paper that represented the bread was a very keen job. Eventually we went with three different kinds of heavy (350gr) and rough, A2 paper. All of them characterized by little flakes of metal, that give the paper a whole-wheat bread kind of feel.  A selection of the finest prints were sold and exhibited in a group exposition as well as in the bakery.
