      The rapid development of South Boston and its waterfront area has resulted in constant changes in demography, which not only impacts on the identity of the historical Southie community but also provides obstacles for the formation of the new community identity.

      1. Located right at the starting point of the very first land reclamation in Boston, the project got inspiration from this ever-continuing land creation process. The proposed spatial organization of lawn, canopy and detailed water sculpture design registers three major land fill processes and thus becomes the commemoration of the unique history of South Boston. 

      2. The three different patterns of tree grids moderate the transition of urban fabric from the strictly organized South Boston to the overlaying and somehow chaotic Boston downtown area as well as providing different canopy conditions.

      3. In addition, an existing tunnel is extended to open up the rare view of Boston’s skyline from the south. Landforms around the tunnel become spaces of different levels of intimacy.
