Sri Lanka has had a multitude of influences, and the Dutch have made significant contributions to its rich language. Hera (king) & Porova (queen) are two words borrowed to fill in the gaps in the Sinhala language and during 17th century, Sri Lankans were introduced to playing cards by the Dutch.
By combining these influences to my artwork,two screen printed posters were created which will showcase the Dutch influences that have lingered on and helped shape Sri Lankan language and culture today.
