Andrea Rizzotto's profile

Yo! How much of your wife?

The Blues Brothers is certainly one of the movie I like the most. Therefore, it was a pleasure for me to watch it again while keeping an eye on the brief, trying to find the right scene to analyse to develop my work. The scene shot in the restaurant presents different interesting elements which shape the conversation: there are four people with different personalities and tones of voice who occupy a well-defined space in the room, fully visible from some wide shots.
I then started to work considering the spatial arrangement, tones of voice and how all the characters involved in the scene behave throughout the conversation. After choosing an appropriated font for each person, I designed a "fan" shaped illustration which recalls the shape of the round table, while the spikes, which come out of it, represent the provocative/antagonistic tone of voice of the two main characters, Jake and Elwood. On the other hand, the teal-coloured "bubbles" are associated with the diplomatic male waitress who, even though is nervous, tries to keep calm and be polite with the other characters. Nevertheless, towards the end he becomes not able to handle the situation anymore as the bad influence of the rebels characters, The Blues Brother prevails on him. At the same time, the shocked father, whose dialog is typed in yellow squares, changes his timbre of voice from a neutral tone to a louder one.

The scene of the movie I analysed starts at 2:32
