Brand Refresh: VisionTek Candyboard

With the adding of the waterproof mini keyboard to the line of "CandyBoard" mini keyboards VisionTek carries, it was decided that the CandyBoard packaging needed to be updated for various reasons.
 
The initial line of CandyBoards had dark, hard-to-read packaging that was not condusive to being on a shelf in a retail store. In some cases, typos and inconsistencies in fonts and colors were present. Overall, the VisionTek team felt a refresh would help revive the brand and could get it back on the shelf in some of the big box retailers that carried the product online. 
The packaging redesign started with a logo refresh. The old logo was one-color and transparent, which was hard to decipher from three feet away. It also didn't really invoke the playfullness the brand name did. The redesigned logo utilized a rounded, clean font that was a little more candy-like, and a two-color scheme that would stand out dramatically on the white background planned for the new packaging. On the packaging itself, a subtle gradient was added to the "Candy" part of the logo for added dimension and interest.
The Bluetooth Candyboard featured an outdated VisionTek bug and an overall dark look on what was generally a nice box. Despite the box itself being nice, the product itself was over-packaged and packaging was costly. Two of VisionTek's other CandyBoard models had been moved to a lighter, plastic packaging that was cheaper and smaller, as well as able to be hung from pegs as well as placed on a retail shelf. We decided to move the Bluetooth CandyBoard to this packaging as well. The "Bluetooth" designation was done in the official blue for the Bluetooth brand.
The RF version of the CandyBoard was packaged similarly to the Bluetooth version, and while the box was identical there were distinct differences to the font sizes outlining features on the front of the box. This packaging was moved to the cheaper packaging as well, for the same reasons the Bluetooth version was. The "RF" was done in a dark teal (one of the colors outlined in the VisionTek Branding Guide) so as to differentiate it, at a quick glance, from other models.
The CandyBoard Remote was already packaged in the clear plastic box, but it featured a dark burgundy text explaining what the product does, which was nearly impossible to read even on close inspection (it is between the logo and the "Works with..." line on the black). It also showed the back of the item, with the VisionTek tam thought might confuse potential customers. The redesign featured a burgundy "+Remote" on the white background and showed the front of the product. We also made the "Works with..." text a little more general to account for a wider variety of products the CandyBoard is compatible with.
The CandyBoard MIni Wing was also packaged in the plastic box and featured dark red text on the black, which got lost from over three feet back, much like the logo. Like the Bluetooth and RF models' inconsistencies despite identical packaging, the Mini Wing box differed from the Remote box when you looked at font sizes. On the new box, the "Mini Wing" text was done in an orange color that matched the color of some of the text on the keyboard, but also served as a quck-glance differentiator between models. 
The back of each new packaging featured the new logo and model info, as well as more in-depth text that would help a customer decipher the difference between CandyBoard models, but also highlighted specific features of each individual model. Each keyboard had a specific feature called out with a color-coordinated line and brief description. Clutter, like barcodes, partnumbers, and certification info, was removed and placed on the bottom of the box, while quick-glance bullets and the Tek Support number was placed on the side of the box.

The updated packaging for VisionTek's existing CandyBoard products complement the new waterproof mini keyboard packaging nicely, and update the line nicely.
