Implementation Research Institute: Branding & Website Design

IRI, a part of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, at Washington University in St. Louis, is an institution that facilitates good research practices for investigators in the field of mental health. After working on a new site for MT-DIRC, IRI's sister program, Matchbox Design Group was asked to help IRI create a new website that would be a hub for fellows and faculty involved in the program and a new logo to identify and promote IRI's program.
IRI's new logo needed to convey the connections the investigators make, a friendly, open environment and the mental health field. Keeping this in mind, we combined a stylized version of a brain and the idea of connections and communication (between investigators and faculty in the IRI and between neurons in the brain). We paired this with the Google web fonts, Gleegoo, a serif font that was friendly, but not silly and Oxygen, a san serif that was simple and easy to read.
Matchbox's goals with the main website were to provide researchers with a consolidated place to apply, share documents and watch conference videos. The home page speaks to the mission of the program through a large interactive graphic.
The document hub for researchers includes documents that are easily intentifiable by type using icons.
