Contemplative Space: Olafur Eliasson Exhibition

_______________

An exhibition design for Olafur Eliasson, a renowned contemporary artist known for his installation work and use of light to allow viewer’s to not only see his art, but experience it. The poster is printed on pearlescent paper and the exhibit title is foil stamped to allow light to react with the poster, allowing passersby to feel the same stimulation that his work produces. Adding to this system is the direct mail which is sent in reflective translucent paper, and folded to exaggerate the angles and geometry he uses in his own work. Type was tracked out to immerse the viewer in the information and hold attention emulating the same trance like feel his work conveys.

The main visual for the poster was created using overlays and transparencies of his work. The circle form comes from one of his most celebrated work entitled The Weather Project (seen below). The main graphic emulates the idea that he is holding this work and inviting you into his exhibition. One of his major purposes with his work is to let viewers experience it, rather than view it.

The system was carried out with a bus shelter display, email blast, website banner, and shopping bag. The goal with the project was to truly visualize Olafur's work in a way that he would with his own work. By using similar principles and practises I was able to create an engaging exhibition promotion that captivates viewers and holds their attention.

This work inspired many of the concepts for this exhibition design.
