Blue Skies Over Lebanon is a UNICEF New Zealand initiative, which has the goal of  providing 2000 teens living
in Lebanon the opportunity to build a better future for themselves, This would be achieved through a Social
Innovation Lab teaching technology, entrepreneurship and life skills.

 

Chris Rae approached me for creating infographics for a website that is under construction, with the goal to highlight concisely the current Syrian refugee situation and to Create interest in support by donating and spreading the word. This is aimed at a more younger target audience who are digital natives and businesses who want to donate to the cause.

 

The single minded proposition of "People like you, need you" was chosen because it underlines the goal of getting a younger audience to help people of similar age who have been put in a terrible position. A use of illustration and photography is also used in the infographic.

 

The overall style of the infographic was to include simple illustrations for the infographic and photography of actual places and children were used, as it was important to highlight the fact that this is an ongoing conflict that is impacting on peoples lives throughout Syria. There was a large amount of freedom in the colour of the work, so i kept with a blue and white colour scheme.

 

The first infographic below has been created in a web and mobile device format, due to the target audience using the internet on computers and on their smartphones.

The infographic below takes a story of a Syrian refugee and his journey in starting a new life. This is to give a relatable connection to the target audience, as he would be of similar or slightly younger age, and outlining the fact that Jehad himself as well as countless other children and young adults need help, as there is a risk of losing a generation of children.

 

The souvenir globe is shattered to symbolise the conflict going on in Syria, and the globe represents the childrens memories of their home, being broken and forced to leave it behind, to start again somewhere new. The illustrations are inspired by Rick murphy and his style, with simple repetition and shapes creating structures and landscapes, which works quite nicely with the souvenir globe and other illustrations.
