X-Spec is a multi purpose motorcycle that blends the functionality of a commuter, an adventure tourer and a rally spec motorcylce. It is aimed at the budget conscious Indian motorcycling enthusiast who likes to ride to his office but also desires to jump sand dunes and go off-roading without having to buy 3 bikes that serve these three very distinct jobs.
X-Spec is the brainchild of my dear friend and senior Aniket Das who's team I was happy to be a part of right in my first year of design education. Our common liking towards riding motorcycles got us together to make X-Spec a reality. What began as a group of 3 enthusiast led by Aniket, the team soon expanded taking X-Spec to the next level. To test the bike's ability we decided to enter the 2013 Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm just with the aim to finish the race and verify the bike's endurance. To much of our surprise, not only did we finish the race, we had a podium finish coming in as the 2nd runner up. What followed next was history!
My contribution to prototype 1 (pictured below) was confined to 'race plate' design and giving design inputs in other decisions. Aniket later on took X-Spec ahead and made 3 more iterations while the rest of the team remained as consultants.
