"Wi27" will be located in Old Strovolos with a mixed build up surrounding it. It is a 230m2 house that is designed with the noisy double lane one-way traffic & 3 storey block of flats next door in mind. The design focused on the problems of access to and from the plot and the road, so Ai Architects designed to enter & exit front first with 2 separate independent covered parking’s that are not visible from the main road because of a perforated styled brick masonry wall. The existing house on the plot is the family home of the Clients grandparents that was built in the mid to late 60's. The Client wanted to design something totally new with some character from the grandparents house. The ground floor public area is clad with brick and customized manual sliding shading systems to control the natural light. The 1st Floor Private Area is clad with Fibre-C and an ornamental customized privacy screen. Privacy was a big factor and the surrounding buildings helped to make the design process much easier due negative aspects of the neighboring build up. Some rooms have light wells to maximize daylight factor with a shading system to stop direct sunlight from coming into contact with the glass. Energy efficiency was of the highest priority thus the cladding/thermal glazing/shading systems/orientation based high-tech design. All internal walls are clad with a modular wooden panel system, for easy accessibility and a warm finish.
