James Franck Poster

For this class project, I was tasked with making an infographic-type poster about a Nobel Laureate. The poster had to include the Laureate, the year they won, the subject, a small writeup about them as a person and a timeline of their life. I picked James Franck, the physicist who discovered the layout of the atom.
Franck is still a really important figure and his work is the foundation of atomic physics to this very day! I wanted to make a poster that reflected his discovery, while also appealing to a more modern audience. I picked graphics, typefaces and visual motifs with a scientific, 20th century feel that I think really supports the theme of Franck’s work.

I incorporated a more scientific tone and feel for my poster by using geometric shapes and linear patterns as the main graphic elements to my piece. I also wanted to stick to using the atomic shells illustration as my major graphic. I picked the typeface Blender, from FontShop, for its hard geometric edges and similar tone and feel to what I want to cultivate.

For my color palette, I picked a few neutral colors with a pop of neon, as neon signs are made by electrified gas, in a way, much like what Franck used in his work. My palette will include: a cream, a neon green, a teal, a purple and and black.
