A global movement for all humanity
In 2011, the world’s population reached 7 billion. This unique moment in human history has implications for sustainability, urbanization, and public health. Working with the United Nations Population Fund, Ultravirgo created an integrated communications campaign to raise awareness of this milestone and engage people worldwide to improve quality of life for themselves and others. Our approach focuses on solutions rather than challenges. A robust website promotes engagement by encouraging people to submit personal stories of empowerment, enter a film competition, and review the population data themselves. Our literature put a hopeful, human face to the milestone, while online and offline ads spread real-life inspiring stories. Within days of the campaign launch, awareness of the population milestone soared, and additional initiatives are underway to sustain the momentum and create a truly global movement focused on positive change for all humanity.
Each brochure cover featured a different individual from around the world.
This 24’ banner hung in front of the United Nations headquarters building in New York, becoming a visual icon for the milestone, with broadcast news coverage and inclusion in Google’s Zeitgeist 2011 year-in-review video.
The advertising campaign featured the stories of inspiring individuals – to showcase the impact that a single person can have on the key issues that arise from a growing population. This ad featured the inspiring story of Kakenya Ntaiya and ran in The Economist magazine - both in print and in iPad and smartphone editions.
A comprehensive guidelines document was distributed in print, PDF and put online to ensure UN country offices and partners around the world could understand what the core messages and download visual assets.
