BBSRC commissioned us to create a Festival logo to brand the 20th anniversary of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s pioneering research. The task was to merge the client’s existing logo with the words Great British Bioscience Festival and the Union flag. This logo now features on their website and marketing collaterol.

I created a series of options to develop before choosing the final logo. I knew I had to include the specific text and introduce a british theme. I decided early on that the colour scheme would match the colours of the Union flag, I wanted to merge the existing BBSRC logo, (seen below) taking the icon elements and intergrating the icons into the typography if possible.
It was important for the word festival to portray its meaning visually; I chose an expressive script font to do this whilst keeping "Great British Bioscience" in a more restrained san serif font.
The biggest challenge creating this logo was spacing. Below you can see the annotations which tell the story of the development of my designs.
