Cover designs for Socialist Register 2011 and 2012
is a collection of political essays published annually by Merlin Press (UK), Monthly Review (USA) and Fernwood Publishing (Canada). For both 2011 and 2012 (as well as the projected 2013 edition), the editors have taken as their theme the ongoing crisis, which began with the financial crashes of 2008 and looks set to continue for some time. Left-wing commentators are no longer alone in describing it as a 'crisis of capitalism'. On the one hand, the global upheaval is the resultant of numerous lesser constituent crises – economic, demographic, geopolitical, ideological, social, cultural and environmental.
