Sessional Chair
Furniture - Oct 2009
Steel, Ash Hardwood - 2'x2'x4'
This chair is about exploring the aesthetics of prosthetics, and how they are embodied in everyday objects. The word session is derived from the greek work sedere, meaning, “to sit”. Both halves of the Sessional Chair rely on each other for physical support but they also need each other to be seen as a complete chair. So while the chair can be a prosthetic, it can also have a prosthetic; It sits in itself. In the future, I will consider expanding the concept to include variations on the steel portion of the chair, to represent prosthetic forms.
