Taking inspiration from Chapter 3 of the novel, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the brief tasked the cohort to create an editorial layout through the use of a message which inspired us.

The message of being alone was derived and upon deeper research – Solitude Is Best took form as the title for a fictional publication issue, displaying four editorial spreads along with Part II of the project (infographics). It is meant to demonstrate how solitude can actually be a healthy and desirable state of being, contrary to what the characters in the novel have been brainwashed to believe. The text and images of these spreads have been curated with the intention of creating a quiet contemplative mood.

The opening spread defines the term ‘solitude’, presenting that its common association with ‘loneliness’ is in fact a misinterpretation of its meaning.
Photos were captured and edited personally, depicting moments of solitude. Overlaying coloured gradients were based on Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow, providing a serene/peaceful mood while maintaining a cohesive look for its imagery used throughout the publication.
Elements such as lines and dots introduced are used as a connection between paragraphs of texts from each page, allowing readers to follow through the article to the end.
Part II: 3 spreads of infographics with advantages and tips while performing activities in solitude.

Based on the chosen message of Solitude is Best, this series of infographics was created with the intention of educating an audience on the various perks of being alone, as well as tips for facilitating successful periods of solitude, calm, and peacefulness.
