Baden Powell Park is in Milan and it’s dedicated to the founder of world movements of scouts and guides. It’s located near the historic centre of the city, not far from Naviglio Grande, in an area that always suffers for the absence of green public spaces.
Segantini Park it’s located in the ex serotherapy hospital area. We decided to project in this area because we believe it has a lot of potentiality, but it’s now abandoned.
These parks, divided by a group of industrial buildings, have the size to be compared to other urban parks, but they are distinguished by a neighborhood dimension and different atmospheres that allow continual transformations during the day.
The area is located inside a system of elements, natural and human, that highlights the parks inside the urban pattern. The railway and the bypass, despite closing the area, they connect it with the city.
In the nord the area is closed by Naviglio Grande that, continuing towards the Darsena, and with Naviglio Paese, they enclose the area in the east. The park is served by metropolitan stations of Romolo and Porta Genova.
The park is located in a neighborhood characterized by a strong transformation of settings and states that need an emphasized flexibility.
The green areas aren’t connected with the surrounding neighborhood because the principal streets and buildings enclose them without a conection.
The project is based on levelling out the outline of the parks, with an intervention on the pavement, based on a 5x5 m grid that highlights the accesses and the area as a singular element. Despite the common base of the project, every area develops differently depending on the interaction with the context.
