Ideation Session Engagement Materials

Fall 2014, I and two design colleagues began a 5-week service/experience design project, with the goal of improving the cycling experience of IUPUI students on campus. As part of our design research, we engaged participants through a variety of methods, including a pop-up session at the IUPUI student center. The evening before the morning of our session, we realized we needed event materials for participant engagement. I created a simple trifold poster to draw attention to our booth, and created a voting game with obstacle cards. Cyclists could choose the obstacle they faced the most, and if they suggested a way to improve the experience, they were rewarded with candy.
Obstacle cards. I created them with icons we thought campus cyclists would be most likely to face, including unaware pedestrians, vehicular traffic, weather issues, heavy backpacks or other travel materials, uneven sidewalks, and theft concerns. Cyclists used a one person, one vote system to choose the obstacle they faced the most while cycling on campus.
