Letterwetter - Alte Weisheiten schnell erzählt

Ein Film in 12 Büchern: Typografische Daumenkinos über die Vorgänger unserer heutigen Wetterprognosen.

Die über Jahrhunderte gesammelten Weisheiten über das Wetter und seine Folgen für die Landwirtschaft, sogenannte »Bauernregeln« behalten ihre Gültigkeit bis heute. Das Buchprojekt ist eine Sammlung von Daumenkinos, die 12 exemplarisch ausgewählte Weisheiten anhand inszenierter

Typografie vorstellen. Wie eine Regieanweisung steht eine Regel am Anfang eines jeden der 12 Bücher und gibt das Skript für die folgenden Seiten vor. Die einzelnen Lettern der Monatsnamen sind die Protagonisten der Letterwetter-Aufführung.

Typeweather - Old Wisdom swiftly told

A movie in twelve books: Typographic flip-books about the ancestors of todays weather forecasts.

Countless wisdoms about the weather and its impact on the agriculture, so-called "country lores", were collected for centuries and are still valid today. The bookproject is a collection of flip-books, which introduce twelve "country lores" to be exemplary for the variety of wisdoms.
This occures by enacted typography. Like a stage direction, one "country lore" is printed at the opening of each of the twelve flip-books.

It presets the script for the following pages. The month names' individual letters are the "Typeweather" protagonists.

Januar - »St. Julian bricht das Eis, oder er bringt‘s mit von seiner Reis‘.«
January - "St. Julian breaks the ice or brings it allong from his journey."

Februar - »St. Valentin friert‘s Rad mitsamt der Mühle ein.«

February - "St. Valentin freezes the wheel and the mill."

März - »Märzensonne – kurze Wonne.«
March - "March sun - short joy / little fun"

April - »Tiburtius kommt mit Sang und Schall, bringt Kuckuck und die Nachtigall.«
April - "Tiburtius arrives with chant and sound, brings peekaboo and the nightingale."

Mai - »Florian und Gordian richten oft noch Schaden an.«
May - "Florian and Gordian still bring about damage."

Juni - »St. Barnabas schneidet das Gras.«
June - "St. Barnabas cuts the grass."

Juli - »St. Jakob nimmt weg die erste Not, bringt erste Frucht und frisches Brot.«
July - "St. Jakob takes away the famine, brings along first crop and new bread."

August - »St. Lorenz kommt in finstrer Nacht, ganz sicher mit Sternschnuppenpracht.«
August - "St. Lorenz arrives in black night, sure with shooting stars glory."

September - »Der Kosmas und der Damian, die zünden alle Lichter an.«
September - »Kosmas and Damian are turning all lights on«

Oktober - »Gallus vorbei, Birnen und Äpfel sind frei.«
October - "Gallus is over, pears and apples are free."

November - »St. Martin kommt nach alten Sitten, gern auf dem Schlitten angeritten.«
November - "St. Martin arrives according to old ways, gladly on the sledge."
