Rowan Sculpture Project

Rowan Sculpture
Possibly the fastest collaborative ceramic sculpture ever created!
Rowan is a Cambridge City based charity and arts centre that was established in 1985 to bring artists and people with learning disabilities together in the production of fine artwork and crafts; while providing opportunities for self-expression and creative exploration.
We found out about each other after Rowan very kindly lent me studio space and use of their kiln for a previous art project I undertook in Cambridge.

In only eight short days, working with the students at Rowan, we built this amazing tower together.  Each element of the sculpture is made by a student at Rowan.  We started at the bottom making tiles so each student could explore their own ideas and imagery.  For the the next stage we branched out into images of self and others, and then the top section became homes.

The picture below is the sculpture fired but unglazed.  We are glazing it next week so more photos will follow in due course.
