The Genius of Birds by Jennifer Ackerman
Counted personally as one of the most remarkable experience, I worked with the prestigious publisher Penguin Randomhouse and a seasoned designer Gabriele Wilson to create book cover illustrations of the renowned author Jennifer Ackerman’s brilliant book, The Genius of Birds.
The brief was to visualize the selected birds to look noticeably smart from its gesture and expression and to give impression that the book is not a bird guide book. I illustrated the devious western scrub jay as front cover illustration and blue tit birds on the back one.
The book has done well in the U.S and abroad. It has been translated into 20 languages which many of them using the illustrations I did. The book is named one of the 10 best nonfiction books of 2016 by The Wall Street Journal, the Best Science Book of 2016 by National Public Radio's "Science Friday", the Nature Book of the Year by the London Sunday Times, the New York Times’ Bestseller, etc.
