Asemic writing is a wordless open semantic form of writing. The word asemic means “having no specific semantic content”. With the nonspecificity of asemic writing there comes a vacuum of meaning which is left for the reader to fill in and interpret. All of this is similar to the way one would deduce meaning from an abstract work of art. 
As a calligrapher, I enjoy having the option of doing traditional, literal calligraphy – typically words of wisdom that inform or advise – and the option of doing “asemic” work, which rather than making a statement, asks questions. Sometimes, I use both.

When viewing Asemic work, typically, the first questions that arise are “what does this say?” and “what does this mean?” and the answer is open-ended ...
