STRONG LINES 2: COLOUR AND CURVES WITH THE PILOT PARALLEL CALLIGRAPHY PEN is my second calligraphy class in a series of three, offered through skillshare. In this class, we'll learn about coloured ink and pen techniques (pen manipulation), with a focus on the Pilot Parallel calligraphy pen. These pens beg to dance and play – so, in this class we will look at how the pen can be rotated, twisted and flicked (pen manipulation) to give sophisticated strokes and line endings. But we’ll leave lettering out of this class and practice our pen skills while creating natural floral or ornamental motifs that will bring energy to any page. Read Less

For my second skillshare class, I wanted to focus on two key areas which calligraphers usually ask about: colour and pen manipulation. Using the pen skills we learn in the class, the class project is to design a colourful "organic ornament".

Endless possibilities:
In the first section, we'll do exercises to introduce pen manipulation - twisting and rotating the pen to achieve more advanced pen strokes.
Then, we'll add colour and speed!
In the second section of the class, I review inks that work well in the Pilot Parallel pen, demonstrating how to re-fill ink cartridges, and my favorite colour technique.
Creating colourful, decorative ornaments is just such a great way to practice pen techniques while having fun!
Both watercolour and gouache work well in the Pilot Parallel pen:
As does that old favorite, Walnut Ink:
I'll share my favorite acrylic ink; the one I use on canvas:
And we'll look at working with white ink:
And, finally, a look at magical metallics!
Please join me in this colourful class!
