This flyer was designed for a campaign raising awareness of the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

 

In the following you will find a page of my brainstorming session for the Congo Rises flyer drawn in pencil. The idea of focusing on the people who suffer came into my mind, however, I decided not to depict a person but to keep the tear drop as a symbol for expressing the pain that is caused through rape and war. Later in the process the idea of the teardrop and a simple eyeshape was chosen to depict the suffering person, whatever gender (as women as well as men suffer under rape). To show the focus on the DRC, the pupil, however, shows the shape of the country Congo. The colours were chosen to match the national flag.
