The Markey Cancer Center was founded in 1983 and works with the University of Kentucky’s Albert B. Chandler Hospital to conduct clinical programs and provide patient care. The organization offers multidisciplinary services in breast, lung, and brain cancers, among others.

In July of 2015, the center welcomed the Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center (EMCCC) to its network of affiliates, which includes the Norton Cancer Institute and St. Claire Regional Medical Center. All affiliates work toward a common goal of providing cost-effective and compassionate services while developing educational programs and research that reduce the impact of cancer. EMCCC views the partnership with the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in the state as an opportunity to enhance treatment options to its patients as well as to progress toward the mission of ending cancer.
